Program Overview

This section of the ISTH Clinical Core Curriculum deals with aspects of obstetrics and gynaecology to attain a level of proficiency to enable them to practice independently as specialists in the field.

Relate the effects of pregnancy and the postpartum, oral contraceptive and hormone replacement therapy on haemostatic parameters to clinical management of patients
Develop and implement anticoagulant regimens for use during pregnancy and postpartum
Investigate women for relevant haemostatic factors involved in placenta-mediated pregnancy complications (preeclampsia, fetal loss, stillbirth, placental abruption)
Diagnose and manage women with obstetric manifestations of the antiphospholipid syndrome
Manage the anticoagulation of pregnant women with mechanical prosthetic heart valves
Assess and manage gynaecological and obstetric issues in women with inherited bleeding disorders
Manage haematological aspects of postpartum haemorrhage
Diagnose and manage thrombocytopenia in pregnant women
Diagnose and manage women with fetal and neonatal alloimmune thrombocytopenia in conjunction with obstetric and neonatal specialists
Provide evaluation of haemostasis in women with menorrhagia
